I like taking selfies.
It is a fun activity “just because.”
Sunday lunch -- with some folks after church.
We got the waitress, Janet, to take a photo.
With 85% of the tables empty at that point, it was no big deal for her.
Photos "just because" can be fun.
We even did bunnies ears on each other.
And then, the meal concluded, we went out to our cars.
In the parking lot was the car of the owner of the local coffee stand.
She had her newer model Volkswagen Bug parked alongside the coffee stand.
And on the headlights of the bug were plastic eyelashes.
It looked so silly.
It was another opportunity for a photo “just because.”
How it brings joy to pause and enjoy such moments and to do so playfully.
Everyone in the photo playfully touched the eyelashes of the Volkswagen Bug and we had a fun time with it.
The owner of the car didn’t even notice.
She was so used to people being amused with the eyelashes on her car.
But she said to me later, you know what “I do need to come up with a vanity license plate to put on it. Any ideas?”
My droll friend came up with the right answer: “EatZBugs.”
I think it is is a winner.
I almost want to get a late model Volkswagen Bug and put eyelashes on it, just so I can drive around with a license plate bearing the Klaus Schwab motto “Eat ze bugs."
I like dissension. I like civil disobedience.
For several years now, I have encouraged people to see the world in a specific way that can be quite helpful.
1.) There are hyena-like people. They have existed during all periods of time. They do not determine the trajectory of history. They are always trying to pull one over on a person. Paying too much attention to them will leave you feeling quite dissatisfied, even when there is no reason to be. Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates, and Joe Biden are among them.
2.) There are sheep-like people. They have existed during all periods of time. Though they be a majority of the population, they too do not determine the trajectory of history. Your triple masked neighbor and your cousin who got 18 jabs are among them. They are trying not to stand out and are constantly just looking for the right people to follow. Paying too much attention to them will leave you feeling quite dissatisfied, even when there is no reason to be.
3.) Then there are the lions. The lions are a special group. They can be awake or can be asleep. The lions, once woken, will not need leaders, they will just go about living their own free lives. It can be very fulfilling work to surround yourself with lions and to help wake them up and empower them. That, dear reader, does impact the trajectory of history and is so very fulfilling. Both in personal terms and along a wider scale, it is so very fulfilling.
So you know what you can do? You can spend all your time thinking about Klaus Schwab and Bill Gates — “How can anyone be so evil? They will make this into a really rotten world if we let them!”
You can obsess over the triple masked -- “What are they thinking? Are they even thinking?”
That choice is yours.
You can also just stay focussed on the good guys. You can stay focussed on what works.
In July, I am going to be reading The Real Anthony Fauci. I’m going to read it alongside some lions. It is a book written by a lion. I have an interest in knowing what Fauci is up to and how things work. I pay some attention to Klaus Schwab and to Bill Gates. "Schwab," by the way, is the Slovak word for cockroach, identical sound, only spelled slightly differently.
When I read that book, The Real Anthony Fauci, I will be paying attention to how awful Fauci is, but perhaps more importantly, I will be focussed on what I can learn from the book that I can apply to my own life. I will be looking for heroism in the book. I will be looking for dogged behavior from good folks. I will be looking for examples of good people standing up to bad.
And of course, I’ll pay attention to the hyenas (and cockroaches) and others, but I’ll most be looking for the “So what?” question to be answered. How does this impact my life? How can I grow from this? How do I make my home and family better after reading this?
That's what our book discussion groups have ultimately been about.
That’s where my mind will be.
And if you think that’s where yours is likely to be, I would like to invite you to join me.
