In December 2019, I was aboard the cruise ship the Grand Princess with my family, celebrating my daughter’s birthday.
In January 2020, you best believe that I paid attention to every news report of that ship when it was determined that the Wuhan Flu had broken out on board and that the ship had to be quarantined.
By the end of February 2020, nearly everything we needed to know about Covid was public information to anyone paying attention. Public health officials opted to not pay attention. Virtually everything we know today, in June 2022, was known by the end of February 2020.
March 17, 2020, was the beginning of lockdowns in my corner of the world on the left coast of the US.
April 3, 2020, was the beginning of the CDC face mask guidance. That day, I watched a largely unmasked population suddenly don masks. I was on a walk and had no idea the news had come out. I just suddenly saw that nearly EVERYONE was wearing a mask and presumed that some type of mask guidance had been released by someone for public behavior to so quickly shift.
By May 2020, it became clear to me how much information was being hidden from us by the search engines. That once sharp tool had lost its effectiveness and had become a method for lying to the public by hiding the truth.
I had long used Google for my research, and by 2015 had noticed that Google shifted and was no longer focussed on providing the results users asked for. I soon stopped using it for that purpose. Before long, I settled on Duck Duck Go.
By May 2020, Duck Duck Go proved itself to me as inferior. My team and I ran a series of tests on a dozen search engines and determined what the most censored and least censored results were. Of that dozen, Duck Duck Go had the absolute worst results — worse than Microsoft Bing, worse than Yahoo, worse than even Google. A bunch of the most praised search engines are totally awful.
